braces care
While you have braces, you must brush with a fluoridated toothpaste after each meal or snack and floss once a day. In addition, a waterpik device may be helpful in the removal of debris. Frequent visits to your general dentist is required while in braces. When your braces are placed, we will review proper oral hygiene techniques.
Excessive breakages can increase treatment time, so it’s helpful to avoid foods that will break brackets. Hard, crunchy, sticky foods and candies should be avoided to prevent breakages.
If you play a sport that requires a mouthguard, it is very important that you continue to use a mouthguard with your braces to protect your teeth and your appliances. Most sporting equipment retail stores sell mouthguards that are suitable for braces. Please contact our office if you cannot find the right mouthguard.
